WORKSHOP DESCRIPTION
In this course you will be introduced to a specific approach and gain working familiarity with technical solutions used in oil painting. These will help you express complex color relationships in lighting and atmospheric environment. The course will also focus on the impressions that you are able to build when playing with light and color to define a specific atmospheric feeling. In addition to working with color solutions, we will multiply the effect of internal motion by building a dynamic composition.
Session 1 will be using a still life painting as an example while session 2 will focus on landscape painting. Session 1 will run for 3 days at 4 hours each and session 2 will run 2 days with 5 hours of instruction each day. This time will allow for a detailed stay on the basic principles of constructing a dynamic composition, a free hand motion drawing, followed by gradual formation of painting layers. This will enable you to express the intriguing effect of dynamic interaction between light and color. Each step will be accompanied by an analysis and explanation of the specifics involved. It will also include a live demonstration of how the techniques will be implemented onto the canvas. At the end of each class, we will reflect on the day’s work, answer any questions and receive feedback.
The development of this dynamic approach to painting can help you in your personal work within any fine art medium. The course is aimed to leave you with strong free-hand brushwork techniques, and the clear understanding of the interaction of color and light effects in atmospheric environments. Along with developing these technical skills, you will learn in practice the hierarchy of identifying and aligning your priorities to achieve your primary vision.
